- Coronary artery disease
We are in tertiary hospital and have many complicated and difficult cases. With these experiences we can maintain the technical excellence in treating coronary artery disease. We specialized in the complex percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for the bifurcation, left main, tortuous & calcified lesions using newest & best technique and drug-stents, rota-ablator, and optical coherence tomography (OCT)/Intravascular ultrasound (IVUS). Regarding intermediate lesion, we use specialized technique of coronary physiology including fractional flow reserve, and instantaneous wave-free ratio for optimal clinical outcomes. We also perform cell therapy (MAGIC cells) through autologous peripheral blood stem cells in patients with acute myocardial infarction.
- Valvular heart disease
We actively perform nonsurgical treatment for patients with aortic stenosis, mitral stenosis, and mitral regurgitation using percutaneous transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), mitral valvuloplasty (PMV), and Mitraclip. Patients can be treated smartly & painlessly by catheter rather than open heart surgery with just several days of hospitalization. We use cutting edge TAVI valves including Edwards Sapien3 and Medtronic Evolut PRO for better clinical outcomes.
- Cardiac arrhythmia
We provide accurate diagnosis and treatment of all cardiac arrhythmia disorders. The cardiovascular arrhythmia team of Seoul National University Hospital, with a history of over 30 years, has been providing the best treatment of bradyarrhythmia with a pacemaker and of tachyarrhythmia with catheter ablation. We adopted the latest 3-dimensional mapping equipment to provide quick and accurate diagnosis and treatment of complex arrhythmia (atrial fibrillation, atrial tachycardia, and ventricular tachyarrhythmia, etc.). Also, a number of research papers using preclinical and big data have been published on the mechanism and risk factors of atrial fibrillation, which has been increased dramatically. We have been internationally recognized through various studies related to anticoagulation treatment in patients with atrial fibrillation. Also, we have the experience of more efficient radiofrequency ablation and cryoballoon pulmonary vein isolation by introducing the latest technology related to the treatment of atrial fibrillation. We provide the best medical care in Korea in various fields ranging from diagnosis of syncope and sudden cardiac arrest, implantable cardioverter-defibrillator treatment to prevent sudden cardiac death, and cardiac resynchronization therapy to improve symptoms and prognosis of heart failure patients.
- Heart failure
We provide meticulous evaluation and management of heart failure patients. As a treatment method for end-stage heart failure patients, we perform a significant number of left-ventricular assisting device (LVAD) implantation and heart transplantation under the collaboration with the Cardiac Surgery department. We have large experience to manage patients with the terminally-failing heart.
- Peripheral vascular disease
We treat pts with aortic aneurysm using nonsurgical catheter-based therapy (EVAR, endovascular aneurysm repair) or surgery depending on the severity of the disease or atherosclerosis of lower limbs
- Stem cell therapy
For the last twenty years, our group is the only one who has run the MAGIC CELL program where we treated pts with acute myocardial infarction using autologous peripheral stem cells that are mobilized from bone marrow by G-CSF SQ injection for 3 days. We have treated several hundred patients with AMI.
- Cardiovascular imaging
We provide the most accurate and precise diagnoses of various cardiovascular diseases using up-to-date imaging modalities, including echocardiography, cardiac computed tomography (CT), and cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
- Atherosclerosis, metabolic syndrome, hyperlipidemia, and hypertension
We are leading several multicenter clinical trials in an effort to reduce cardiovascular burden of atherosclerosis, metabolic syndrome, hyperlipidemia, and hypertension. We also provide the highest-quality care for patients with these diseases.
- Basic research in cardiovascular medicine & stem cell biology
We have the biggest Cardiovascular laboratory in the Korea where 40 research personnel are involved in the stem cell biology, and cardiovascular biology. Under the support and funding of the Ministry of Health and Welfare, we are operating a Strategic Center of Cell and Bio Therapy for Heart, Diabetes, & Cancer and Research driven hospitals, while we are participating in the ‘Bioscience Unit’ and ‘Inflammation research Unit’. We share promising technology of advanced bioscience and cooperate with international researchers in related fields, and keep our research level updated. Based on our research, we are annually publishing series of innovative papers worldwide. Experience in this basic research is the fundamental for the translational or innovative clinical research.
