Children and adolescents are different from adulthood in terms of development and growth. In psychiatry, children and adolescents have many differences from adulthood in the distribution, pattern, and progress of diseases and response to treatment. In addition, a more multi-faceted approach is required for evaluation and treatment due to differences in sensitivity to environmental factors.
The Department of Pediatric Psychiatry at Seoul National University Children’s Hospital has been equipped with an independent education, research, and treatment system in the field of pediatric and adolescent psychiatry since it became independent as a pediatric psychiatric division in 1980. Five faculty members in charge of Pediatrics and six fellows, residents, nurses, clinical psychologists, social workers, speech therapists, special teachers, and other top experts in various fields provide multi-faceted and comprehensive evaluation and treatment.
We provide various treatments such as drug therapy, play therapy, family therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, environmental therapy, neurofeedback, etc. for various pediatric and adolescent mental disorders such as depression, autism, attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder, tic disorders, learning disorders, and speech disorders. We also offer a number of treatment programs, including special education, for children with developmental disabilities. We are equipped with an independent hospitalization room for pediatric and adolescent patients who need admission, providing an appropriate environment and treatment program according to the developmental stage. We strive for long-term local rehabilitation after discharge through close cooperation with the medical and social welfare team.
