Seoul National University Hospital announced the operation strategy of the ‘Convergence Medical Technology Institute’, which is nurturing convergence talents who will lead future medicine and leading convergence research, at the ‘2024 HIMSS Global Health Conference & Exhibition’.
This conference is the world's largest healthcare IT event hosted annually by the American Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), founded in 1961. More than 45,000 experts and 1,000 companies from 90 countries participated in this year's conference held in Orlando, USA.
On March 13, Director Kim Kyung Hwan of the Institute of Convergence Medicine, Director Gong Hyun Joong of the Department of Convergence Medicine, and Professors Kim Young Gon and Jeong Ji-Hong held an educational session on the topic of ‘The impact of convergence medicine on healthcare and medical technology.’ This is Seoul National University Hospital's third exclusive presentation at a regular education session at the HIMSS conference, following 2019 and 2023.
The Convergence Medical Technology Institute is an organization established in 2020 to solve diseases, disabilities, and medical challenges by combining medical knowledge and future technology. It is responsible for convergence talent education and research on the development of innovative medical technologies. Director Kim Kyung Hwan, who was the first speaker, introduced this vision and emphasized the need for convergence research that provides a comprehensive perspective on unmet medical needs.
Next, Kong Hyeon Joong, head of the Department of Convergence Medicine, took the time to introduce the Institute for Convergence Medicine Technology's education and research strategy, the current status of research infrastructure such as technology and equipment, and domestic and international networking strategies. Professors Kim Young Gon and Jeong Ji-Hong concluded the session by introducing research achievements and cases of their practical application in the four subfields of the Convergence Medical Technology Institute (data medicine, biomedical science, biomedical engineering, and medical technology policy medicine).
Kim Kyeong Hwan, director of the Institute for Convergence Medicine and Technology, said, “Based on the content derived from this session, we will be able to systematically prepare ways for convergence medicine to contribute to future medical care.” He added, “The Institute for Convergence Medicine and Technology is the key to improving the public’s health and advancing the medical system.” “We will do our best to establish ourselves as an organization that plays a positive role.”
Moreover, Director Kim was selected as and fulfilled his role as a ‘HIMSS reviewer’ at this conference, reviewing session presentations and providing mentoring to presenters. On March 15th, he will participate as a panelist in a discussion session on ‘Using data and AI to improve patient and public health’ and will introduce AI medical cases at Seoul National University Hospital on behalf of Korea.
