The Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Seoul National University Hospital is responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of respiratory diseases. Our areas of expertise include infectious lung diseases (pneumonia, pulmonary tuberculosis, and nontuberculous mycobacterial disease etc.), lung cancer, chronic airway diseases (COPD, asthma, and bronchiectasis, etc.), interstitial lung diseases (ILD; such as pulmonary fibrosis), pulmonary vascular diseases (pulmonary embolism, and pulmonary hypertension, etc.), pleural diseases (such as pleural effusion and pneumothorax), and sleep medicine. Critical care medicine, which involves the diagnosis and treatment of critically ill patients, is also a crucial area of our division. Furthermore, we manage the screening, preparation, and post-transplant care for patients requiring lung transplantation.
In addition to our outpatient clinics, general wards, and the medical intensive care unit, the Division operates a bronchoscopy unit and a pulmonary function test laboratory. In the bronchoscopy unit, we actively perform a wide array of procedures, including not only diagnostic endoscopies but also various therapeutic interventions, thoracic ultrasounds, and medical thoracoscopy.
Our medical team strives to apply the most suitable and up-to-date treatments for each individual patient through multidisciplinary meetings and clinics. We are also dedicated to the education of medical students, residents, and fellows through various training programs including chest conferences for medical students, weekly Tuesday afternoon lung cancer conferences and X-ray conferences, Wednesday evening and Friday morning conferences on the latest findings in pulmonology, monthly multidisciplinary ILD meetings, and three weekly multidisciplinary lung cancer clinics. Each year, numerous trainees and students from both Korea and abroad visit our division for education and training.
