The Department of Radiology at Seoul National University Hospital is composed of radiologists, radiologic technologists, nurses, and administrative personnel. Our team provides optimal patient-centered care through imaging-based diagnosis, minimally invasive treatments, imaging data management, and multidisciplinary collaboration. We leverage extensive clinical experience and cutting-edge imaging technologies to deliver the highest standard of radiological services.

- Development and clinical application of advanced imaging techniques for disease diagnosis
- Providing therapeutic guidance through image-guided biopsies and non-surgical treatments in collaboration with other departments
- Post-procedural follow-up and medical consultation for patients who undergo imaging-guided interventions
2. Clinical Services
The Department performs over 270,000 CT scans, 150,000 ultrasound studies and ultrasound-guided procedures, 100,000 MRI scans, and 35,000 angiographies annually. We also operate in close collaboration with other departments by managing the Cancer Imaging Center at the Cancer Hospital and the Pediatric Radiology Unit at the Children’s Hospital.
3. Equipment and Facilities
Our department is equipped with a wide array of state-of-the-art imaging systems to support precise diagnosis and optimized treatment. We operate 13 CT scanners, including a photon-counting CT system, and 13 MRI systems, with a focus on high-specification 3T units. In addition, we have 27 ultrasound machines, including high-end models capable of real-time fusion with CT and MRI. We also operate a PET-MRI system in collaboration with the Department of Nuclear Medicine, which enables simultaneous acquisition of metabolic and anatomical information. Furthermore, we are actively engaged in the development and clinical application of advanced imaging technologies such as functional MRI, MR spectroscopy, and molecular imaging.
4. Subspecialties
The Department of Radiology is organized into 11 subspecialty divisions. Each division is dedicated to excellence in clinical care, research, and education, and plays a leading role in radiology both nationally and internationally. Since 2011, the department has published more than 5,500 papers in international peer-reviewed journals, reflecting its strong academic achievements.
- Abdominal Imaging
Imaging diagnosis, image-guided biopsy, and non-surgical treatment of diseases involving the liver, biliary system, pancreas, gastrointestinal tract, and peritoneal cavity.
- Breast Imaging
Comprehensive breast imaging and image-guided biopsy using ultrasound, mammography, or MRI—including stereotactic biopsy, vacuum-assisted biopsy, and vacuum-assisted excision—for the evaluation of benign and malignant breast conditions.
- Cardiovascular Imaging
Imaging diagnosis of cardiac, coronary, aortic, peripheral vascular, and congenital heart diseases
- Emergency Radiology
Rapid imaging assessment of critically ill or injured patients in the Emergency Department setting
- Genitourinary Imaging
Imaging diagnosis and image-guided biopsy/treatment for diseases of the kidneys, bladder, prostate, adrenal glands, ovaries, uterus, and retroperitoneal structures. Also includes prenatal imaging and diagnosis of fetal anomalies
- Interventional Radiology
Non-neurovascular, image-guided diagnosis and treatment for various conditions, including hepatic arterial and radiation embolization for liver cancer, arteriovenous fistula salvage in dialysis patients, endovascular treatment of aortic and lower extremity vascular diseases, vascular embolization for hemorrhage and malformations, thrombolysis for deep vein thrombosis, drainage of biliary obstructions and abscesses, and stent placement in the biliary and gastrointestinal tracts
- Musculoskeletal Imaging
Imaging diagnosis and image-guided biopsy, aspiration, and drainage of musculoskeletal diseases. Includes pain interventions for spinal and joint conditions and radiofrequency ablation of musculoskeletal tumors.
- Neuroradiology
Imaging diagnosis of brain, cerebrovascular, spine, head and neck, thyroid diseases, imaging guided diagnostic procedure (fine-needle aspiration and core-needle biopsy) and interventional management (ethanol ablation and radiofrequency ablation) of thyroid, head and neck diseases
- Neurointerventional Radiology
Endovascular treatment of cerebrovascular disorders including stroke, cerebral hemorrhage, aneurysms, and arteriovenous malformations via embolization, stent placement, and thrombolysis
- Pediatric Radiology
Imaging diagnosis and image-guided biopsy/treatment of congenital and acquired conditions in patients from neonates to adolescents
- Thoracic Imaging
Imaging diagnosis and cone-beam CT-guided biopsy of pulmonary and mediastinal lesions. Non-surgical treatment of pneumothorax, lung abscess, and pleural effusion via percutaneous aspiration or catheter drainage
