The Seoul National University Hospital Pain Center (SNUHPC) takes care of patients suffering from acute and chronic pains. We offer treatment for all types of pain disorders including spinal pain diseases (spinal stenosis, failed back surgery syndrome, internal disc derangement, lumbar sprain, cervicogenic headache), non-spinal pain diseases (frozen shoulder, piriformis syndrome, osteoarthritis, bursitis, tennis elbow), and neuropathic conditions (trigeminal neuralgia, postherpetic neuralgia, fibromyalgia, CRPS). SNUHPC also helps refer patients to other departments if they have medical conditions requiring treatment through the collaboration of these departments. We even have a separate cancer pain management center in the newly-built cancer hospital from 2011.
SNUHPC offers precise diagnosis and integrated multidisciplinary treatments for various pain disorders. Pain sources are found by image studies, neurologic studies, and diagnostic blocks. After diagnosis, we help patients with recovering normal physical functions within their bodies through medical and interventional treatments. Minimal invasive techniques are prepared for the refractory pain conditions. Spinal cord stimulation and intrathecal drug administration are available options for severe intractable chronic pain disorders.
As the largest pain management training center in Korea, SNUHPC, for the last thirty years, has outnumbered in number of visiting patients and has treated the most severe illnesses dealing with pain, compared to those of other pain centers in the country. Such accomplishments led our center to becoming one of the leading institutions in education and research worldwide. A number of pain clinicians trained in SNUHPC are delivering high-quality services to patients locally and from overseas. Our center is even recognized for publishing valuable scientific papers, articles every year. We believe it is our role to not only introduce Korea advanced techniques in pain medicine from other countries but also share cutting edge knowledge as well as skills to, especially, China, India, countries in Southeast Asia and Middle East.
Four experienced and enthusiastic faculties (Director: Yong-Chul Kim, MD, PhD, Professor; Director of the Cancer Pain Management Center: Jee Youn Moon, MD, PhD, FIPP, CIPS, Vice Professor) and all team members in SNUHPC will continue to dedicate to providing pain relief and supporting patients recover the quality of life they are seeking through premium care.
