Siheung Baegot Seoul National University Hospital (tentative name) establishment plan Joint briefing on the final pass of the preliminary feasibility study by the Ministry of Strategy and Finance
- Expected to open the hospital from the end of 2026 to the first half of 2027
□On the afternoon of April 30, at the Neumnae Hall of Siheung City Hall in Siheung-si of Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lim Byung Taek), in connection with the establishment project of Siheung Baegot Seoul National University Hospital (tentative name), Seoul National University Hospital (President Kim Yon Su), Seoul National University (President Oh Se-Jeong), and MP Cho Jung Sik (The Minjoo Party of Korea, Sihueng Eul) held a joint briefing.
The briefing, which lasted about 30 minutes, was also broadcast live through YouTube for citizens who could not attend it.
□This briefing was held that morning by the Financial Project Evaluation Committee under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Strategy and Finance to share the establishment plan of the hospital and the development direction with Siheung-si as the Siheung Baegot Seoul National University Hospital establishment project passed the preliminary feasibility study by the Ministry of Strategy and Finance.
□In that day’s briefing, MP Cho Jung Sik explained that the construction of the hospital has made Siheung-si a mid-sized city in the metropolitan area that is second to none. In addition, Siheung-si Mayor Lim Byung Taek announced the policy direction of Siheung-si in connection with hospitals.
□Furthermore, Seoul National University Hospital President Kim Yon Su explained future hospital construction strategies and detailed implementation plans. Finally, Vice-President Choi Hae Cheon, who attended on behalf of Seoul National University President Oh Se Jeong, explained the future blueprint of Seoul National University Siheung Campus in connection with Seoul National University Hospital.
□This briefing was held jointly by the three institutions and local MPs, and it is evaluated as an opportunity to secure trust in the successful establishment of hospitals in the future.
□Siheung-si Mayor Lim Byung Taek said, “Siheung Baegot Seoul National University Hospital has been a long-cherished dream of Siheung citizens. Thank you to the citizens who believed in and supported Siheung-si. In addition, as an important base for the [K-Golden Coast] project, Siheung Baegot Seoul National University Hospital will become a key facility representing Korea's biomedical industry in the future. We will actively cooperate with Seoul National University Hospital to open the hospital as soon as possible.”
□MP Cho Jung Sik said, “I am very happy to have secured 132.8 billion won in government funds through the passing of this preliminary feasibility study. This was possible because there was close coordination and collaboration between Siheung-si and Seoul National University Hospital, and we will do everything we can to ensure that the Siheung Baegot Seoul National University Hospital construction project, which starts next year, can be carried out without any setbacks.”
□Instead of President Oh Se Jeong, Choi Hae Cheon, Vice President of Research at Seoul National University, said, “With the passing of the preliminary feasibility study, Seoul National University Siheung Campus has solved the most important puzzle of a huge project that started as a converging cluster of education, medical care, and industry. Seoul National University, together with Siheung Baegot Seoul National University Hospital, expect that medical bio-innovators such as university research institutes and hospitals will establish a self-sustaining ecosystem and perform world-leading functions in the Korean Medical-Bio industry.”
□Seoul National University Hospital Director Kim Yon Su said, “Seoul National University Hospital did its best in response to KDI's countless inquiries about the hospital's business plan. Siheung Baegot Seoul National University Hospital will be built as a future hospital with a completely new concept, not just another Seoul National University Hospital branch, under the mission of “solving human health and disease-related challenges based on human-centered innovative research.” The hospital is expected to open from the end of 2026 to the first half of 2027, and we ask for your active interest and support from Siheung-si and its citizens.”
