Professor Kwak, Cheol (Chief of Robotic Surgery Center) has achieved 1,000 robotic surgeries.

Robotic surgery is a method of remotely operating the robot by transmitting the motion of the hand to the robot arm. There is a great advantage in sophisticated and delicate surgery, such as securing a good surgical area and preventing microscopic hand tremors. Since only 3 to 5 holes are made in the body, bleeding and post-operative pain are less.

Robotic surgery is known to be effective in minimizing the damage and preserving the function of peripheral organs, nerves, and blood vessel in urinary cancer, which is operated within a body part where human eyes and hands are difficult to reach.

Professor Kwak, Chul - cheol has been performing robotic surgeries for 100 ~ 200 cases each year. He has been using robots for kidney resection and kidney cancer surgery as well as prostate cancer, which is well known for its advantages.

In addition, he has been researching on robot surgery, such as reporting that robot surgery is advantageous for a restoration of sexual function in open prostate cancer surgery than open surgery.

"Robot surgery is a great help in raising the quality of life and survival rate of patients," said Kwak Chul-cheol. "I will do my best to develop and study new techniques."
