The Surgery Department_the Colorectal Surgery Division

The Colorectal Surgery Division focuses on a sub-specialty, performing the basic and clinical research and surgical treatment on various diseases in the lower gastrointestinal tract (small intestine, colon, and anus). The clinical care at our division is largely divided into malignant and benign diseases, depending on the disease.

Malignant diseases include hereditary cancers, such as hereditary non-polyposis colorectal cancer and familial adenomatous polyposis, colorectal cancer, anal cancer, small intestine cancer, and bowel cancer.

Benign diseases include anal diseases such as hemorrhoids, anal fistula, anal fissure, perianal abscess, rectal prolapse, and incontinence along with inflammatory bowel disease, appendicitis, and constipation.

As of May 2020, the Colorectal Surgery Division at Seoul National University has 5 professors, 1 clinical professor, and 4 fellow doctors, and our faculty members are putting the best foot forward in the basic and clinical research and the education for students and residents in the field of colorectal surgery.
