Laboratory Medicine
The Department of Laboratory Medicine plays an essential role in diagnosing diseases and evaluating treatment effects and prognosis by analyzing molecular and cellular components in all samples derived from the human body. The Department of Laboratory Medicine at Seoul National University Hospital is divided into diagnostic hematology, clinical chemistry, clinical microbiology, diagnostic immunology, transfusion medicine, cytogenetics, and molecular genetics laboratories where various required tests are performed. In particular, it plays a key role in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic by providing laboratory test information that is important for diagnosis.
We contribute greatly to improving the satisfaction of medical services and the reliability of the hospital by improving the quality of tests with our state-of-the-art medical facility, total laboratory automation (TLA) system, next-generation nucleotide sequencing (NGS), and Korea’s first 24-hour rapid test support system for the Department of Pediatric Laboratory Medicine. We also provide accurate and rapid test results to the medical professionals and patients. We have been certified as an outstanding laboratory by Korean and international laboratory quality control programs such as the Korean clinical laboratory accreditation program and the U.S. CAP survey. Our department is playing a pioneering role in the 21st century customized medicine by introducing, applying, and developing new technologies of in vitro diagnostics and discovering new disease markers.
