Introduction to the Operating Room Management Office
On October 16, 2023, the newly launched Operating Room(OR) Management Office integrated the Pediatric Surgery Room and Adult Surgery Room which were previously separated, to ensure the safety of surgical patients and the seamless operation of the facility. The office comprises a total of 41 operating rooms, with 31 dedicated to adult surgeries and 10 specifically for pediatric surgeries, maintaining the highest standards of care.
1. Operating Room Composition and Operations
Operations are conducted in state-of-the-art smart operating rooms equipped with advanced systems, including robotic and negative-pressure surgery rooms. Our highly skilled medical team performs over 41,000 surgeries annually, high-complexity surgeries for severe conditions ranging from cancer and cardiovascular diseases to organ transplantations and emergency surgeries.
2. Adult Surgery Room
• Cutting-edge surgical Facilities and Equipment: The Adult Surgery Room is equipped with the latest facilities and equipment, operating smart surgical rooms with an integration system tailored to provide a comfortable and secure environment for patients. The aim is to create an optimal surgical environment for medical professionals, ultimately facilitating accurate treatment and swift recovery for critically ill patients.
• Hybrid Operating Room: A hybrid operating room is a specialized surgical environment that combines advanced imaging technology with a fully equipped operating suite, allowing both open surgery and image-guided endovascular procedures to be performed without relocating the patient. It supports real-time fluoroscopy and high-resolution imaging, enabling precise diagnosis and treatment during the procedure. Multidisciplinary teams including cardiothoracic surgeons, general surgeons, neurosurgeons, interventional cardiologists, and radiologists collaborate in real time to provide optimal care for complex and multi-system conditions.

3. Pediatric Surgery Room
• Surgical care from preterm neonates to adolescents:
The Pediatric Operating Room at Seoul National University Children’s Hospital provides comprehensive, protocol-driven perioperative management for patients from birth to 18 years of age. Surgical and anesthetic plans are meticulously tailored based on the patient's age, body weight, physiological development, and underlying pathology. The facility is equipped to perform high-risk procedures in vulnerable populations, including extremely low birth weight infants (<1 kg) and patients with complex congenital and rare diseases.
• Multidisciplinary collaboration for advanced pediatric surgical outcomes:
A robust multidisciplinary framework—integrating pediatric surgical subspecialties, pediatric anesthesiology, perioperative nursing, and allied support services—ensures the delivery of high-acuity surgical interventions and optimized postoperative recovery, in alignment with international standards of pediatric surgical care.
