Molecular Pathology Center
With recent advances in medicine, the classification of cancer has diversified and new anti-cancer therapies and treatments are being introduced with the importance of molecular pathology diagnosis increasing day by day. The Molecular Pathology Center plays a crucial role in determining the patient’s treatment method and predicting the prognosis by accurately diagnosing cancer and analyzing alterations in various genes and proteins related to cancer. Through this, the Molecular Pathology Center’s goal is to contribute to the healing of cancer patients, improve the quality of life, and become a global leader in the development of novel cancer treatment methods.
Patient-specific examination and diagnosis system
An important item for the diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of cancer patients is the identification of patient-specific molecular changes in the tissues or body fluids of each cancer patient. Accordingly, the Molecular Pathology Center uses various methods such as immunohistochemical staining, sequencing, fluorescence in situ hybridization, PCR, and recently next-generation sequencing to diagnose molecular mutations. Three molecular pathology professors are in charge of quality control of each test and all pathology professors comprehensively perform management to introduce cutting-edge molecular tests in each specialized field.
Cooperative Care by Top-notch Medical Staff
The faculty members of the Molecular Pathology Center are eager to collaborate and discuss with clinical departments for the best diagnosis and treatment of cancer patients through conferences and cooperation. Excluding internal conferences, about 35 joint conferences with clinical departments are held 500 times a year, and we are also striving to provide the best personalized treatment for each cancer patient.

As one of the pivotal centers in several research projects conducted at the research-driven Seoul National University Hospital, we actively participate in research to discover the latest diagnostic techniques and treatment targets. Each faculty member is a leading researcher in the Korean medical field researching with responsibility and enthusiasm, and is also devoted to the research conducted by those in other clinical departments.
