Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery

The Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery at Seoul National University Hospital provides highly-qualified, comprehensive care to patients with diseases of the heart, aorta, lungs, trachea, esophagus, diaphragm, chest wall and mediastinum.

Our surgical team is comprised of twenty one professors, two board-certified thoracic and cardiovascular surgery fellows, fifteen residents, one physician support team leader, eleven physician assistants, nine extra-corporeal technicians and ten Surgical assistants.

Seoul National University Hospital's (SNUH) Thoracic Surgery practice began in 1968. Today, it is one of the largest and most experienced surgery groups in Korea. The SNUH Thoracic Surgery Team performs a high volume of complex open-heart and general thoracic surgery procedures.

Of the 2,500 surgeries performed annually, frequently performed procedures are lung cancer surgery, coronary artery bypass surgery, and surgery for acquired valvular heart diseases.

The SNUH Thoracic Surgery Team offers a range of services that are important for treating any underlying health conditions and for any possible complications. SNUH Thoracic Surgeons and their assistants work closely with colleagues to ensure that patients return home with instructions for appropriate incision care, pain management, exercise and other activities of daily life. Recently, our team started patient satisfaction surveys to improve patient's care.
