Seoul National University Hospital (President Nam-Jong Paik) announced on the July 8th that it laid a practical foundation for the overseas expansion and joint research of domestic bio startups by successfully facilitating over 120 one-on-one partnering meetings with global pharmaceutical companies, investors, and research institutions at the '2026 BIO International Convention (hereinafter BIO USA),' the world's largest bio-pharmaceutical exhibition held from the June 22nd to the 25th.

Seoul National University Hospital established a 'SNUH Pavilion' at the venue and successfully concluded a session connecting promising bio startups nurtured by the hospital with the global market. Five startups fostered by Seoul National University Hospital participated in the booth, including companies selected for the Global Bio Scale-up Project (G.R.E.A.T) (HTnB, Mediarc) and in-house startups (RS Rehab, Idea2Market, and Cenyx Biotech).

The ‘KHDP (Korea Health Data Platform)’ team, a global research platform based on digital health data currently being built by Seoul National University Hospital—designated as a specialized research institute for national strategic technologies—also participated, expanding contact points with partners from around the world.

Seoul National University Hospital also held an international educational seminar in conjunction with Stanford University’s Biodesign program. Stanford’s Biodesign is a renowned healthcare innovation methodology that involves observing problems in the medical field, inventing solutions, and connecting them to commercialization. This seminar served as a venue to share this methodology with domestic participants, and approximately 20 attendees, including domestic researchers and startup representatives, participated in a workshop focused on real-world case studies.

Meanwhile, taking advantage of this event, Seoul National University Hospital signed a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Korea Technology Finance Corporation(KOTEC) and Shinhan Financial Group to support the growth and overseas expansion of K-Bio ventures. Through this agreement, the three institutions plan to provide a systematic scale-up program by combining their respective infrastructures and financial and non-financial support capabilities. Specifically, the three organizations agreed to cooperate on the joint identification and nurturing of promising bio-venture companies, collaboration on technology commercialization and clinical trials, financial support linkages, and support for entry into overseas markets.

The ‘K-Bio Global Innovation Forum’ was also held locally. This event served as an opportunity for promising domestic biotech ventures to be directly introduced to global investors and pharmaceutical company officials, and attending international experts highly evaluated the competitiveness and potential for success of Korean biotech companies.

Seong-Keun Kwon, Biomedical Research Institute Director at Seoul National University Hospital, stated, "It is meaningful to have successfully operated the Seoul National University Hospital pavilion at this BIO USA and to have organized a forum to solidify cooperation with the Korea Technology Finance Corporation(KOTEC) and Shinhan Financial Group." He added, "We will continue to cooperate closely with relevant domestic and international organizations to provide ongoing support so that the Korean biotech ecosystem can stand at the center of the global stage."
