Seoul National University Hospital Appoints Nam-Jong Paik as the 20th President and CEO

Seoul National University Hospital announced on the 13th that Professor Nam-Jong Paik (born in 1966), Professor of Rehabilitation Medicine at Seoul National University College of Medicine, has been appointed as the 20th President and CEO of the hospital. The term of the new President Nam-Jong Paik will run for three years, from the 13th of this month to May 12, 2029.

The newly appointed President Paik graduated from Seoul National University College of Medicine in 1990 and completed his residency training at Seoul National University Hospital. Since 2001, he has served as a professor at Seoul National University College of Medicine. In particular, at Bundang Seoul National University Hospital, he held major administrative positions including Chief Communications Officer, Chief Finance & Strategic Officer, and Chief Public Health Officer, before serving as President of the hospital, thereby building outstanding administrative capabilities across overall hospital management.

Academically, he is regarded as a world-leading authority in the field of neurorehabilitation, having devoted himself to research on rehabilitation treatment for functional recovery in stroke patients and the development of neuromodulation technologies. Currently, he is serving his term as the President-Elect of the World Federation for NeuroRehabilitation(WFNR), becoming the first Korean to be elected to the position. He has also demonstrated global leadership by serving as the inaugural president of the Asia-Oceanian Society for NeuroRehabilitation(AOSNR) and the inaugural chairman of the Korean Telemedicine Society.

In addition, he has broad experience in clinical practice and education, having served as Director of the Regional Cardiocerebrovascular Rehabilitation Center and Chair of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at Seoul National University College of Medicine. Based on such administrative experience and academic expertise, the new President Paik will strengthen the status of Seoul National University Hospital as the nation’s central hospital and lead future medical innovations such as digital healthcare.

The President of Seoul National University Hospital is appointed by the President of the Republic of Korea upon recommendation by the hospital’s board of directors and nomination by the Minister of Education, and may serve one consecutive reappointment term.
